Pokemon GO IV Calculator

Work out your Pokemon's exact Attack, Defense, and Stamina IVs from its CP and HP - no appraisal guesswork required.

What Are IVs in Pokemon GO?

Individual Values, or IVs, are a hidden per-stat bonus Pokemon GO quietly assigns every Pokemon the moment it's caught, hatched, or received from a trade. There are three: an Attack IV, a Defense IV, and a Stamina IV, each an independent whole number from 0 to 15. Two Charizard at the same level can have noticeably different CP purely because one rolled better IVs than the other - the species' base stats and the level's CP multiplier are identical, so IVs are the only variable left.

Niantic never displays the three raw numbers directly on a Pokemon's summary screen. The only ways to see them are the in-game appraisal feature (which gives an approximate range, not exact numbers) or a reverse calculation like the one above, which works backward from CP and HP to the exact IVs that produce them.

    How IV% Is Calculated

    IV% = (Attack IV + Defense IV + Stamina IV) / 45 × 100

Each IV maxes out at 15, and there are three of them, so the highest possible total is 45 - that's the denominator. A Pokemon with 15/15/15 sits at 45/45, or 100%. One with 10/8/12 sits at 30/45, about 67%. IV% is a convenient single number for comparing two Pokemon's overall quality, but it doesn't tell you which individual stat is strong or weak - two Pokemon can share the same IV% with very different Attack/Defense/Stamina spreads, which matters a lot for PvP.

    What Is a Hundo?

A "hundo" is trainer slang for a 100% IV Pokemon - 15 Attack, 15 Defense, 15 Stamina, the maximum possible in every stat. Hundos are rare by design (there's only 1 way to roll 15/15/15 out of 4,096 possible IV combinations) and are prized for raid attackers and collection purposes, since no further IV improvement is possible. If your result above includes a 100% combination, it's flagged directly so you don't have to spot it yourself in a long list.

Why One CP/HP Pair Can Match Several IV Sets

CP and HP are each a single number computed from three separate IVs plus the level's CP multiplier - compressing three independent 0-15 values into one output necessarily loses information. It's common for two, three, or more different Attack/Defense/Stamina combinations to land on the exact same CP and HP at a given level. That's not a bug in the math; it's unavoidable, and it's exactly why appraisal exists - a rough read on which stat is highest is often enough to narrow a handful of matches down to one. Knowing the exact level (rather than searching all 101 possible levels) narrows it the most.

    Appraisal and Your Team Leader

Appraisal is Pokemon GO's built-in, in-app way to get a rough IV read: open a Pokemon's summary screen and ask your team leader (Candela of Team Valor, Blanche of Team Mystic, or Spark of Team Instinct) to look it over. Today that shows as a bar chart (one bar per stat) plus an overall sticker rating the total IV; versions before 0.149.0 instead gave two lines of spoken dialogue - an overall tier and a callout of the single best stat, worded differently by each leader. The calculator above supports both: match whichever one you're looking at to narrow the result list without typing exact numbers.

    Checking IVs for PvP

Once you pick a result above, the calculator shows the highest level that keeps that Pokemon at or under the Great League cap (1,500 CP) and the Ultra League cap (2,500 CP) - Master League has no CP cap, so any IV spread qualifies. This is a basic cap check, not a full ranking: competitive players also care about stat product (Attack × Defense × HP at a league's cap level), which determines a Pokemon's overall PvP "rank" among all possible IV spreads for its species - that's a deeper, separate tool from a straightforward IV lookup. A Best Buddy bonus unlocks two extra half-levels (up to 51) beyond the normal level-50 cap, which can matter for squeezing a few more CP out of a Master League attacker.

Shadow, Purified, Lucky, and Weather-Boosted Pokemon

IVs work the same way for every Pokemon status, but a few things are worth knowing before you plug in numbers:

    • Shadow Pokemon keep the same base stats as their normal form - their CP is computed identically, since the Shadow Attack/Defense combat multipliers only apply during battle, not to the CP number shown. Select the Shadow entry from the dropdown and the calculator handles it correctly.
    • Purified Pokemon use the normal form's base stats with each IV raised by 2 (capped at 15) from whatever it was as a Shadow - see the purify calculator for that conversion specifically; this page assumes the Pokemon in front of you now, already purified or not.
    • Lucky Pokemon have a raised IV floor from trading (each IV guaranteed at least 12), but that only affects what IVs it could have had - once caught, its actual IVs are fixed numbers like any other Pokemon, so the calculator works the same way.
    • Weather-boosted catches show a temporarily inflated CP on the catch screen itself - that number is not the Pokemon's real stored CP. If your result shows zero matches, this is one of the most common causes; check the CP from the Pokemon's actual summary screen instead.
